From Staten Island to Shangri-La: the Collecting Life of Jacques Marchais

Join us as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Museum's opening with a new biographical exhibition about the Museum's founder, Jacques Marchais. This program is sponsored in part by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York State Council on the Arts, and the Staten Island Foundation.

Join us for Tai Chi in the Garden with instructor Bob Murphy. Class begins at 4:00 PM and runs for about one hour. Fee: $10 members, $12 non-members.

Family Meditation with Lama Pema Wangdak. Meditation is way to listen to your heart and find happiness. Come learn how to meditate with a Buddhist meditation master. This event is presented in collaboration with the Rubin Museum of Art and guests to the Tibetan Museum will also receive free admission to the Rubin Museum of Art. Fee: $5 for adults and $3 for students. This event is free for Cool Culture Members.

 

Dharma Talk with Lama Pema Wangdak and Lama Guru Gyaltsen. Lama Pema Wangdak and Lama Guru Gyaltsen will present a teaching on A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life the famous Mahayana Buddhist text written in Sanskrit by Shantideva, a Buddhist monk at the Nalanda Monastic University in India around 700 CE. A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life is dedicated to the development of bodhicitta or the mind of enlightenment through the practice of six perfections. Admission $10 for adults, $5 students and seniors.

Tibetan Festival. Join us for an afternoon of Tibetan food, crafts, a torma (butter sculpture) making display by Tibetan artist, Rabkar Wangchuk and a presentation by Lama Pema Wangdak. Admission: $10 adults, $5 students and seniors.

11:30 AM

Guided Meditation with Ven. Thupten Phuntsok. The class meets for one hour on Saturday mornings. Fee: $12 per person, $10 for "Friends of the Museum."
